This book is one of the most acknowledged "Mitin Masi" series by Suchitra Bhattacharya. Mitin Masi is a female detective created by Suchitra Bhattacharya. she has solved numerous cases. As it is a detective story so obviously Mitin Masi is my favorite.
this book is about a newly wed wife who is being blackmailed by someone related to her family, being told that her past histories will be exposed, that will destroy hr marital life; unless she pays the ransom.
The characters are so real that it will make you imagine that you have been put in the crime plot. all characters will have distinct face in your mind while reading this book.
The story-line is very much gripping, that when i bought this book, i kept on turning the pages, even in time of my studies, hiding from my parents, lol. In some stories you can guess who is the criminal. but the main attraction of this book is , you can't even guess who is the criminal, and more interestingly, you will be spell-bound when you know the actual brain behind those crimes. my favorite part is at the ending of the book when you get to know who is the real villain. I personally could not dislike any part of the book. but what i disliked is the mischievous behavior of the victim, which you will know when you read it. i disliked victim on principles. however the author has played beautifully with the name of the male characters, which i think will be loved by anyone who loves bengali and has a large vocabulary storage.
once again the story has some an essence adult feeling, emotions and some adult relationships. so parents should guide their children to read this book. but as a whole, you will just love the book.
I will give 10 out of 10 to this book and 5 stars.

Palabar Poth Nei by Suchitra Bhattacharya is a romantic thriller novel in which Bhattacharya introduced her female sleuth, Pragyaparomita Mukherjee a.k.a Mitin Mashi. The plot revolves around a newly married woman who is blackmailed by an unknown caller for her allegedly 'immoral' past. The plot is riveting and the writing is vivid, which never for once loses its pace. The novel does not merely focus on solving the mystery and unveiling the identity of the mysterious blackmailer rather Bhattacharya in her signature style explores the intricate labyrinth of human nature and relationships. She also compels the reader to rethink the conventional concepts of morality and impurity. None of the characters could be divided into absolutely good and absolutely bad. There is no black and white dichotomy in the narrative rather each of the characters dwell in a grey zone which makes them complex and consequently real, flesh and blood human beings.
I have never been disappointed by any work of Suchitra Bhattacharya and Palabar Poth Nei is no exception. It's a complex and wonderful novel and additionally it introduces my most favourite character, Mitin Mashi. Reading this novel had been a delectable experience for me and I might return to it again, sometime in future.

Exploitation Her writing focuses on contemporary social issues. She is a perceptive observer of the changing urban milieu and her writing closely examines the contemporary Bengali middle class. Crisis in human relationships and the changing values of the present era along with degeneration of the moral fibre of the society in the backdrop of globalisation and consumerism are depicted in her prose. Exploitations and sufferings of women regardless of their social or economic identities find a distinct voice in her writing. While she is famous for her writing on women's issues, she does not consider herself as a feminist. She took up many odd jobs in her early youth and finally joined the public service which she left in 2004 to become a fulltime writer. Her long career is reflected in many of her stories and novels.

Over the past two decades, Suchitra has written about 24 novels and a large number of short stories in different leading Bangla literary magazines. Some of her acclaimed novels are Kachher Manush (Close to Me), Dahan (The Burning), Kacher Dewal(The Wall Of Glass), Hemonter Pakhi(Bird of Autumn), Neel Ghurni, Aleek Shukh(Heavenly happiness), Gabhir Ashukh (A Grave Illness), Uro Megh(Flying Cloud), Chhera Taar, Alochhaya(Shadows Of Light), Anyo Basanto(Another Spring), Parabas, Palabar Path Nei, Aami Raikishori, Rangin Pritibi and Jalchhobi among others. Her novels and short stories have been translated into many Indian languages such as Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Oriya, Marathi, Gujarati, Punjabi and English. She also writes novels and short stories for children. Her novel Dahan was made into a movie by famous Bengali director, Rituparno Ghosh.
